The shot put women at the 1991 World Championships in Athletics was on 24 August 1991 at the Olympic Stadium of the Japanese capital Tokyo discharged.

With silver and bronze, the female shot putters from the Soviet Union won two medals in this competition. World champion was the Chinese Huang Zhihong , who won the shot put at the Asian Games in 1986 and came second in 1990 . She won ahead of the defending champion, Olympic champion from 1988 , vice European champion from 1990 and world record holder Natalja Lissowskaja . Bronze went to Svetlana Kriweljowa .

24 participants competed in two groups for the qualification round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 18.50 m. Nine athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the three next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 18.09 m had to be achieved for the final.
