Elisângela Adriano

Elisângela Maria Adriano (born July 27, 1972 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian athlete who was successful in the shot put and discus throw . She won two medals at Pan American Games and sixteen medals at South American Championships , including thirteen gold medals.

Career

Elisângela Adriano won her first international medal at the South American Championships in 1991 when she finished second behind the Colombian María Isabel Urrutia with 16.04 meters in the shot put . In 1993 she began a winning streak of six gold medals in the shot put at the South American Championships until 2003, setting the record for her compatriot Wanda dos Santos . From 1997 to 2003 she achieved a double victory in the shot put and in the discus throw. In 2005 she did not win a medal at the South American Championships, but in 2007 she managed to win again. In 2009 she set a new championship record with her sixth victory in the discus throw with 61.00 meters.

In 1999 she won the bronze medal in both disciplines at the Universiade in Palma. At the Pan American Games in Winnipeg , she won the discus throw with 60.92 meters and took fourth place in the shot put. The results were canceled and their medals revoked when nandrolone was discovered in the doping test conducted at the Universiade . Adriano was given a two-year ban for this doping rule violation , which was later reduced. In 2003 she won the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo with 18.48 meters silver behind the Cuban Yumileidi Cumbá .

Adriano took part in the Olympic Games three times, but was eliminated in each qualification. At the indoor world championships in 1997 and at the outdoor world championships in Edmonton in 2001 and in Paris / Saint-Denis in 2003 , she reached the round of the top twelve in the shot put. Her best result was ninth place in 2003 in Paris / Saint-Denis.

Elisângela Adriano is a multiple Brazilian national champion. From 1996 to 2004 she was double champion nine times in a row.

With a height of 1.80 meters, her competition weight was over 90 kilograms.
