Belsy Laza

Belsy Laza ( Belsy Laza Muñoz; born June 5, 1967 in Guantánamo ) is a former Cuban shot putter .

In 1986 and 1988 she won the Ibero-American Championships, and in 1987 she won bronze at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis . In 1989 she was sixth at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Budapest , won silver at the Universiade and was fifth at the IAAF World Cup in Barcelona . In 1990 she won the Central American and Caribbean Games .

In 1991 a fifth place at the World Indoor Championships in Seville was followed by a victory at the Pan American Games in Havana . At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo , she was ninth.

In the following year she won the Ibero-American Championships for the third time, was fourth at the Olympic Games in Barcelona and triumphed at the World Cup in Athletics in Havana .

In 1993 she was seventh at the World Indoor Championships in Toronto , won silver at the Universiade and was eighth at the World Championships in Stuttgart . At the Athletics World Cup in London in 1994 , she finished second. In 1995, a fourth place at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata was followed by a victory at the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she came in tenth place. At the end of her international career, she was fifth at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg .
