The men's 4 x 100 meter relay at the 1991 World Athletics Championships took place on August 31 and September 1, 1991 in the Olympic Stadium in the Japanese capital, Tokyo .
World Champion was the United States in the occupation Andre Cason , Leroy Burrell , Dennis Mitchell and Carl Lewis (final) and the also used in the flow Michael Marsh . In the finale, the season set a new world record .
Second place went to France with Max Morinière , Daniel Sangouma , Jean-Charles Trouabal and Bruno Marie-Rose .
Bronze went to Great Britain ( Tony Jarrett , John Regis , Darren Braithwaite , Linford Christie ).
The runner of the US relay, who was only used in the preliminary run, also received a gold medal. The world record, however, was only available to the athletes actually participating in the final.

Record improvement
The winning US relay improved the existing world championship record twice:
- 37.75s - USA ( Andre Cason , Leroy Burrell , Dennis Mitchell , Michael Marsh ), 2nd advance on August 31st
- 37.50s - USA ( Andre Cason , Leroy Burrell , Dennis Mitchell , Carl Lewis ), final on September 1st
The winning time in the final was also a new world record.
In addition, the fourth-placed team from Nigeria in the line-up of George Ogbeide , Olapade Adeniken , Victor Omagbemi and Davidson Ezinwa set a new African record with 38.43 seconds.
