doping
Innocent Asonze , who was also disqualified over 100 meters, was involved in the originally won bronze medal of the Nigerian relay team . He had missed a doping test in June 1999. As a result, his results from these world championships were withdrawn and the team from Nigeria lost the medal.
Two teams were primarily disadvantaged:
- Brazil - The team was delayed in receiving its bronze medal and was unable to attend the awards ceremony.
- Israel - The season could have entered the finals via the time rule.
Preliminary round
The preliminary round was carried out in three runs. The first two seasons per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the two fastest teams - highlighted in light green - qualified for the final.
