Lee-Roy Newton (born December 19, 1978 ) is a South African sprinter .
Sporting successes
Together with Morne Nagel , Corné du Plessis and Mathew Quinn , he finished second behind the US quartet in the 4 x 100 meter relay in the final at the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton . The South Africans improved the national record to 38.47 s.
Due to the subsequent disqualification of the American Tim Montgomery for a doping offense , the South African relay was awarded the gold medal in 2005.
At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne , Newton won a silver medal with the South African sprint relay.
