Corné du Plessis (born March 20, 1978 ) is a South African sprinter .
Sporting successes
Together with Morne Nagel , Lee-Roy Newton and Mathew Quinn , du Plessis finished second behind the US quartet in the 4 x 100 meter relay in the final at the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton . The South Africans improved the national record to 38.47 s.
Due to the subsequent disqualification of the US relay runner Tim Montgomery for a doping offense , the South African team was awarded the gold medal in 2005.
