The women's hammer throw at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held on August 24, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville .
This competition was on the program for women for the first time at a world championship.
The reigning European champion and world record holder Mihaela Melinte from Romania became world champion . The Russian Vice European Champion from 1998 Olga Kusenkowa won silver . Bronze went to Lisa Misipeka from American Samoa .

The Romanian world champion Mihaela Melinte set the first world championship record in the competition on August 21 with 75.20 m . So she missed the existing world record by only 77 centimeters.
