The men's 5000-meter race at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held on August 25 and 28, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville .
The world champion was the Moroccan Salah Hissou , who won bronze over 10,000 meters at the 1996 Olympic Games and 1997 World Championships . Silver went to the Kenyan Benjamin Limo . Third place went to the to 1997 for Morocco and now for Belgium -starting Mohammed Mourhit .

The Moroccan world champion Salah Hissou improved the existing world championship record in the final on August 28th by 4.62 seconds to 12: 58.13 minutes.
