The men's 5000-meter race at the 2019 World Athletics Championships took place in Doha , Qatar on September 27 and 30, 2019 .
39 athletes from 22 countries took part in the competition.
Jonathan Busby from Aruba , who was competing in an official 5000 m race for the first time, suffered a faint attack half a lap before the finish line in the first heat. Guinea-Bissau's starter Braima Suncar Dabó then broke off his run to help Busby to the finish. This display of special sportsmanship was recognized internationally in the press.
