Soufiane Bouqantar ( Arabic سفيان بوقنطار, DMG Sufyān Būqanṭār ; * August 30, 1993 in Khémisset ) is a Moroccan long-distance runner .
Athletic career
Soufiane Bouqantar gained his first international experience at the Cross Country World Championships 2011 in Punta Umbría , where he finished 18th in the U20 classification after 23:25 minutes. He then took part in the Junior African Championships in Gaborone , where he finished fifth in the 5000 meter run in 14: 11.67 minutes before winning the gold medal at the Pan-Arab Games in Doha with 13: 45.81 minutes. The following year he did not finish at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , but qualified for the Olympic Games in London , where he was eliminated with 13: 47.63 min in the preliminary round. In 2013 he won the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin with a time of 28: 57.82 minutes in the 10,000 meter run behind the Turkish Polat Kemboi Arıkan and his compatriot Aziz Lahbabi .
In 2016 Bouqantar qualified again over 5000 meters for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but did not reach the final with 14: 56.55 minutes . In 2017, at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, he won the silver medal over 5000 meters behind his compatriot Younès Essalhi in 13: 28.69 minutes and won the bronze medal over 10,000 meters in 27: 47.59 minutes behind Bahraini Abraham Cheroben and Kaan Kigen Özbilen from Turkey. He then won the Francophonie Games in Abidjan in 29: 39.07 minutes over 10,000 meters and won the silver medal behind compatriot Essalhi over the shorter distance in 14: 11.62 minutes. He also qualified for the World Championships in London, where he was eliminated with 13: 30.78 min in the first round . In 2018 he again took part in the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona and won the silver medal over 5000 meters behind Essalhi in 13: 56.28 minutes. He then finished sixth at the African Championships in Asaba in 13: 53.99 minutes. The following year he won the bronze medal over 5000 meters at the Arab Championships in Cairo in 13: 37.91 minutes behind the Bahraini Birhanu Balew and Albert Rop . He then took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time , where he finished seventh in 1: 38.87 minutes before he was eliminated from the preliminary round at the World Championships in Doha with 14: 03.1 minutes .
In 2014, 2015 and 2018 Bouqantar was the Moroccan champion in the 5000 meter run.
