Abraham Naibei Cheroben (born October 11, 1992 ) is a Bahraini long-distance runner of Kenyan origin who specializes in road running. He has been eligible to start for Bahrain since 2016.
Athletic career
In October 2012 he was sixth in his first international race over 10 km at Tout Rennes court in 28:10 min. In the half marathon of Reims à toutes jambes he finished fourth in 1:03:53 h a week later. The following year he won the 20 km of Maroilles. He was fifth in the Lille half marathon and fourth in the Valencia half marathon . In 2014 he won the Santa Pola half marathon, finished second in the Berlin half marathon with 59:14 minutes for the first time under an hour over this distance and won the 25 km in Berlin . In the fall, he won the Valencia Half Marathon and finished seventh in the Delhi Half Marathon .
In 2015 he came third in the Berlin Half Marathon. He also won the Budweis half marathon , the Singelloop Utrecht and the Montferland Run and celebrated his second victory in the Valencia half marathon. He then decided to start for Bahrain the following year. In 2016, he qualified in the 10,000 meter run for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he finished 10th in 27: 31.86 minutes . His most important results in road races this season were a fourth place in the RAK half marathon and a third place in the CPC Loop Den Haag . In 2017 he took part in the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala , but did not finish there. At the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London , he competed in the 10,000 meter run and finished eleventh in a new national record of 27: 11.08 minutes . In September he won the Copenhagen half marathon in 58:40 minutes, the third fastest time ever run over this distance. A month later, he won the Valencia Half Marathon for the third time.
In 2018 he won the silver medal at the World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia behind the Kenyan Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor . He won another silver medal in the 10,000 meter run at the Asian Games in Jakarta behind his compatriot Hassan Chani in 29: 00.29 minutes.
Cheroben graduated from Moi University in Eldoret .
