Hassan Chani ( Arabic حسن تشاني, DMG Ḥasan Tašānī ; * May 5, 1988 ) is a Bahraini long-distance runner of Moroccan origin who has been eligible to compete in Bahrain since 2014.

Athletic career

Hassan Chani gained his first international experience at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang , where he finished 20th. At the beginning of October he won the bronze medal in the 10,000 meter run at the World Military Games in Mungyeon, South Korea . Over this distance he qualified the following year for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he could not finish his run . In 2017 he was 33rd at the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala. In the marathon, he qualified for the World Championships in London , where he finished 50th in 2:22:19 h . At the half marathons in Casablanca and El Aaiún , he was second. In 2018 he took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where he won over 10,000 meters in 28: 25.54 minutes ahead of his compatriot Abraham Cheroben . The following year he won the silver medal at the Asian Championships in Doha behind compatriot Dawit Fikadu in 28: 31.30 minutes . Before that, he reached 33:38 at the World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus . He also took part in the World Championships in Doha over 10,000 meters, but could not finish his race there. In March 2020, Chani was suspended from the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on suspicion of doping .
