Carquefou ( Breton : Kerc'hfaou ) is a French city with 19,805 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . Carquefou belongs to the arrondissement of Nantes and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Carquefou .
geography
Carquefou is northeast of the provincial capital Nantes on the Erdre . The municipality is surrounded by La Chapelle-sur-Erdre in the north-west, Sucé-sur-Erdre in the north, Saint-Mars-du-Désert in the north-east, Mauves-sur-Loire in the east, Thouaré-sur-Loire in the south-east, Sainte- Luce-sur-Loire in the south. To the west and south-west is Nantes. The area of the municipality is characterized by the change in the soil relief during the Worm Ice Age.

The A11 autoroute , which intersects with the A811 and the A821 autoroute , runs through the municipality .

In 1123 the place was mentioned as Carcafagus and after the château was built in 1272 as Querquefou in 1272.
