Saint-Étienne-de-Mer-Morte is located on the border of the Pays de Retz and Pays de Nantais landscapes about 30 kilometers southwest of Nantes . The Tenu River limits the community in the northeast. Saint-Étienne-de-Mer-Morte is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Marne in the north, La Limouzinière in the north-east, Corcoué-sur-Logne in the east, Touvois in the south and south-east, Froidfond in the south and south-west, La Garnache in the south-west and Paulx in the west and northwest.
