La Chapelle-sur-Erdre is located on the Erdre in the catchment area of Nantes . Neighboring municipalities of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre are Treillières in the north-west, Sucé-sur-Erdre in the north, Carquefou in the east and Orvault in the south-west. history

Ennius, a bishop of Nantes , had a church built around 324 on the graves of the first Christian martyrs from Nantes, Donatian and Rogatian . The parish of this church extended over both banks of the Erdre, over the current areas of Carquefou, Sucé-sur-Erdre and La Chapelle-sur-Erdre. La Chapelle-sur-Erdre became an independent parish in 1297 and a first chapel called Sainte-Catherine was built.

La Chapelle-sur-Erdre is represented with two flowers in the Conseil national des villes et villages fleuris (National Council of Flowered Cities and Villages). The "flowers" are awarded in the course of a regional competition, whereby a maximum of three flowers can be achieved.

The Château de la Mesnerie dates from the 15th century. It is privately owned. In 1985 it was included in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques (historical monuments).

The Château de la Gascherie was redesigned in the 19th century based on a design by the architects Jules de la Morandière (1813–1905) and Dominique Noisette. Before that it was a 15th century mansion . It is privately owned. Since 2001 the castle has been entered in the additional directory of the Monuments historiques.

The Roman Catholic parish of Saint-Jean-d'Erdre-et-Gesvres belongs to the diocese of Nantes and consists of the parishes of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, Grandchamps-des-Fontaines and Treillières. In the Sainte-Catherine church, built in 1835, there is a chalice and paten made of silver. The liturgical objects were made in 1752 and classified as Monuments historiques in 1993 .
