La Haie-Fouassière (also: La Haye-Fouassière ) is a commune of the Loire-Atlantique department in the region of Pays de la Loire . It is assigned to the canton of Vertou and the Arrondissement of Nantes .
geography
The wine-growing town with 4659 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) is located on the Sèvre Nantaise about 15 kilometers south-east of Nantes . National road 249 runs through the northern municipality from Nantes via Cholet to Bressuire . La Haie-Fouassière is served by the long-distance train line Nantes - La Rochelle - Saintes . In addition, thanks to the tram train from Nantes to Clisson, the community is also well connected regionally.
history
Toponomy
The place name is made up of Haie, old French haye (dt. 'Heide') and fouace . Fouace is a (fine) pastry - the Fouace nantaise, in particular, a cookie in the shape of a star. A fouassière is the place where this delicacy is made.

Biscuit factory
The Lefèvre-Utile (LU) biscuit factory has been located in La Haie-Fouassière since 1986 and today belongs to the Mondelēz International food company . Originally based in Nantes, today La Haie-Fouassière produces 44,000 tonnes of biscuits and crackers with around 500 employees (3,300 employees across the company produced 232,000 tonnes, as of 2004).
Viticulture
La Haie-Fouassière, along with around 90 other municipalities, has a share in the Gros Plant du Pays Nantais wine-growing region in the Loire region . The dry white wines are made from the grape Folle Blanche grapes. In addition, the municipality is allowed to market another dry white wine made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape under the designation of origin Muscadet Sèvre et Maine AOC .
