Saint-Etienne-de-Montluc ( Breton : Sant-Stefan-Brengoloù ) is a French municipality with 7129 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Nantes , belongs to the canton of Blain and until 2015 was the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc . The inhabitants are called Stéphanois .
geography
Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc is located about twenty kilometers west-northwest of Nantes in the Sillon de Bretagne , part of the Armorican massif . Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vigneux-de-Bretagne in the north, Sautron in the east, Couëron in the east and south, Le Pellerin in the south and Cordemais in the west.
On the northeastern edge of the municipality, Route nationale 165 leads from Nantes to Quimper and on to Brest, as well as the Tours – Saint-Nazaire railway .
history
As a settlement, the place can look back on almost four thousand years of history; The local menhirs serve as evidence of this epoch. In the Middle Ages, the Roman Monte Lucis was then supplemented with the name of St. Stephen.
