Saint-Aignan-Grandlieu (also: Saint-Aignan-de-Grand-Lieu ; Breton : Sant-Enion-al-Lenn-Veur ) is a French commune with 3944 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Loire-Atlantique department in the region of Pays de la Loire . Saint-Aignan-Grandlieu belongs to the Arrondissement of Nantes and is part of the canton of Rezé-1 . The inhabitants are called Aignanais .
geography
Saint-Aignan-Grandlieu is located on Lac de Grand-Lieu , one of the two namesake of the municipality, about 10 kilometers south of Nantes in the historic Pays de Retz landscape . The Ognon flows along the southern municipal boundary . Saint-Aignan-Grandlieu is surrounded by the municipalities of Bouguenais in the north, Pont-Saint-Martin in the east, La Chevrolière in the south-east, Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu in the south and south-west and Bouaye in the west and north-west.
Nantes Airport extends into the municipality .
history
The place bears its name from the Bishop Saint-Aignan of Orléans . In 936 there was a battle here between Alain II's army of Brittany and the Loire-Normans , who had built a fort in St. Aignan.
