geography
Clisson is located 30 kilometers southeast of Nantes and 30 kilometers west of Cholet . Neighboring municipalities are Gétigné , Mouzillon , Gorges , Saint-Hilaire-de-Clisson , Cugand and Sèvremoine . The place is divided by the Sèvre Nantaise , whose right tributary Moine flows here.
history
The Clisson valley was part of the Herbauges county . The valley - at the same time as Herbauges, Mauges and the Pays de Retz - finally became Breton in 851 through the Treaty of Angers between Charles the Bald and the Breton King Erispoë . In the 12th century, the Clisson Valley was structured around the Clisson Castle , the seat of the Lords of Clisson, including the famous Olivier V. de Clisson , Connétable of France . The area benefited from its border location during this period, which exempted it from taxes on merchandise. During the revolution , especially during the Vendeer uprising , the city was devastated.
