Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire ( Breton : Santez-Lusenn ) is a French city with 15,360 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire belongs to the Arrondissement of Nantes and is part of the canton of Carquefou .
geography
Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire is located on the north (right) bank of the Loire . The municipality is surrounded by Carquefou in the north, Thouaré-sur-Loire in the east, Saint-Julien-de-Concelles in the southeast and Basse-Goulaine in the south. To the west is Nantes . Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire is about six kilometers from the city center of Nantes.
history
Around 800 the place was mentioned as Chassiacum . At the beginning of the 12th century, Saint Lucia was appointed patroness of the parish church. This changed the name of the place. From the 15th century the name Sainte Luce was established. Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire was the residence of the bishops of Nantes for a long time. The municipality was dominated by agriculture until the 20th century, when urbanization around Nantes took hold here as well.
