The Canton Blain (Breton Canton Blaen ) is a French canton in the arrondissement Châteaubriant-Ancenis , Nantes and Saint-Nazaire in the Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire ; its main town is Blain .

history

The canton was founded in 1790. From 1790 to 2015 five municipalities belonged to the canton of Blain. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 14. Of the five previous communes, Fay-de-Bretagne moved to the canton of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre and Notre-Dame-des-Landes to the canton of Nort-sur-Erdre . All 8 municipalities of the previous canton of Savenay and 3 of the 5 municipalities of the canton of Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc were added to the remaining 3 communes of the old canton Blain .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Claire Tramier (EELV) / Marcel Verger (PS) won against Jean-Michel Buf / Marie-Odile Vanneraud (Union de la Droite) with 51.6% of the vote (turnout: 47th vote) , 62%).
