Prinquiau ( Breton : Prevenkel ) is a French municipality with 3459 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and the canton of Blain (until 2015: canton of Savenay ). The inhabitants are called Prinquelais .

geography

Prinquiau is located about 40 kilometers northwest of Nantes in the swampy area north of the Loire estuary. Prinquiau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Campbon in the north, La Chapelle-Launay in the east, Donges in the south, Besné in the west and Pontchâteau in the west.

The national route 171 runs through the municipality .

The place first appeared as a Prehinquel in 1090 on the map of the Abbey of Saint-Cyprien in Poitiers.
