Batz-sur-Mer ( Breton : Bourc'h-Baz ) is a French municipality with 2906 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . It is part of the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and the canton of La Baule-Escoublac (until 2015: canton Le Croisic ) and belongs to the Presqu'île de Guérande Atlantique municipal association .
geography
Batz-sur-Mer is located on the Atlantic Ocean , on the Côte d'Amour ("Love Coast"). Batz-sur-Mer is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Guérande in the north, Le Pouliguen in the east and Le Croisic in the west. The place has a train station on the Saint-Nazaire – Le Croisic railway line .
history
In the 9th century, Batz and the neighboring town of Le Croisic were still on islands. In 945 a priory was founded here by Alain II, Duke of Brittany.
In 1854 Batz-sur-Mer became an independent municipality.
