Vladimír Šucha

Vladimír Šucha (* 1961 ) is a Slovak EU official and has been Director General of the Joint Research Center of the European Union since 2014 .

Vladimír Šucha graduated from the Comenius University in Bratislava with a master's degree in geology in 1985 and received his doctorate in 1991 from the Slovak Academy of Sciences . From 1995 he held an assistant professorship in Bratislava and from 2002 a chair. His research areas were in particular ultrafine particles and their properties as well as questions of recycling.

From 2000 onwards, Šucha was professionally involved in a European context. He initially moved to the Slovak representation of the EU in the fields of research, education and culture until 2004 and then worked for one year as an advisor to the Slovak Ministry of Research on EU matters. This was followed by a year in the management of the Slovak Research and Development Agency until 2006. He then switched to the service of the European Commission and until 2012 was Director of Culture and Media in the Directorate General for Education and Culture. On January 1, 2014, he took over his position as Director General of the Joint Research Center, which he has been Deputy Head of since 2012.
