Villeneuve-en-Retz ( Breton : Kernevez-Raez ) is a French municipality with 4929 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and is part of the canton of Machecoul . The inhabitants are called Villeneuretziens .
The municipality was formed as Commune nouvelle with effect from January 1, 2016 by merging the former municipalities of Bourgneuf-en-Retz and Fresnay-en-Retz .
geography
Villeneuve-en-Retz is located about 33 kilometers southwest of Nantes in the Pays de Retz landscape on the border with the Pays Nantais near the Atlantic coast . Here the wine is produced in the Gros Plant du Pays Nantais growing area . Villeneuve-en-Retz is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Pornic in the north and north-west, Saint-Hilaire-de-Chaléons in the north, Sainte-Pazanne in the north and north-east, Saint-Même-le-Tenu in the east, Machecoul in the south and south-east, Bois-de-Céné in the south, Bouin in the west and southwest and Les Moutiers-en-Retz in the west.
