Bourgneuf-en-Retz ( Breton : Bourc'hnevez-Raez ) is a village and a commune déléguée in the French commune of Villeneuve-en-Retz with 3,622 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Loire-Atlantique department in the Pays region de la Loire . The inhabitants are called Novobourgeois (also: Novembourgeois ).
With effect from January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Bourgneuf-en-Retz and Fresnay-en-Retz were merged into a Commune nouvelle with the name Villeneuve-en-Retz. The municipality of Bourgneuf-en-Retz belonged to the Arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and was part of the canton of Machecoul (until 2015: canton of Bourgneuf-en-Retz ).
geography
Bourgneuf-en-Retz is located in the Pays de Retz landscape on the border with the Pays Nantais near the Atlantic coast . The Falleron River limits the area to the south. The former Route nationale 758 also runs here .
history
There was a Hanseatic branch in Bourgneuf-en-Retz (German: Borgneff). They used the salt pans to exploit the salt as a commodity.
