Port of Pornic

Pornic is a French municipality with 15,018 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . It is the capital of the canton of Pornic .

The place is best known as a seaside resort. There are both guarded and unguarded beaches along the Côte d'amour. Pornic's most famous guest was Lenin , who wrote in a letter that he enjoyed his vacation very much. After him, the French bestselling author Maurice Dekobra stayed in Pornic for recreational purposes (in the Villa Ker Colo). In July 1847, however, the German freedom poet Georg Herwegh and his wife had already retired to this “very quiet corner of the world” for several months. Pornic is twin town of Scalby in North Yorkshire , Baiona in Galicia and Linz am Rhein in Rhineland-Palatinate .
