Maurice Dekobra (born May 26, 1885 in Paris ; † June 1, 1973 ibid), real name Maurice Tessier, was a French writer , journalist and translator .

Life

Maurice Dekobra was born Ernest Maurice Tessier on May 26, 1885 in Paris. The son of an industrial representative attended the Lycée Rollin and embarked on a journalistic career after graduating from high school. He worked as a foreign correspondent in America, Asia and Africa for several large French daily newspapers and worked as a liaison officer in England during the First World War. In the 20s he had international success with cosmopolitan entertainment novels, in which he processed the impressions he had gathered on numerous trips. Some of his works, which achieve high editions, have been translated into more than 20 languages ​​and some have been filmed (sometimes several times). Dekobra himself was involved in 25 films as a screenwriter from 1927 to 1954, and as director and producer on La rafle est pour ce soir (1954). He was an officer of the French Legion of Honor , Knight of the Grand Cross of the Temple Order , an honorary doctorate from the Indian Andrah University and holder of other awards. In 1951 he received the Prix ​​du Quai des Orfèvres . From 1920 to 1972 he was Vice President of the Syndicat national des auteurs et compositeurs . He died on June 1, 1973 at the age of 88 in the Hôpital Xavier-Bichat in Paris.
