Frossay ( Breton : Frozieg ; Gallo : Froczaè ) is a French municipality with 3221 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . Frossay belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and is part of the canton of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (until 2015: canton of Saint-Père-en-Retz ). The inhabitants are called Frossetains .
geography
Frossay is located about 25 kilometers west of Nantes in the historic Pays de Retz landscape on the Loire estuary . The Canal Maritime de la Basse Loire runs through the municipality . Frossay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bouée in the north, Le Pellerin in the east, Vue in the southeast, La Sicaudais in the south, Saint-Viaud in the west and La Chapelle-Launay and Lavau-sur-Loire in the northwest.
The former route nationale 723 (today's D723) runs through the municipality .
