Mesquer ( Breton Mesker ; Gallo : Messqér ) is a French municipality with 1941 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . Mesquer belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and the canton of Guérande . The inhabitants are called mesquerais .

geography

Mesquer is located on the Atlantic coast (Bay of Biscay) on the Guérande peninsula with numerous salt marshes ( Marais ). Mesquer is surrounded by the neighboring communities Assérac in the north and northeast (on the opposite side of the Marais Salants), Saint-Molf in the east, La Turballe in the south and Piriac-sur-Mer in the southwest.

The larger district of Quimiac also belongs to the municipality . The community is therefore partly named with the name Mesquer-Quimiac .
