Saint-Joachim is a French municipality with 4033 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and the canton of Guérande (until 2015: canton of Pontchâteau ).

geography

Saint-Joachim is located in the Brière Regional Nature Park north of the Loire and about 10 kilometers north of Saint-Nazaire . Saint-Joachim is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Chapelle-des-Marais in the north, Sainte-Reine-de-Bretagne in the northeast, Crossac in the east, Saint-Malo-de-Guersac in the southeast, Trignac and Saint-Nazaire in the south, Saint -André-des-Eaux and Guerande in the south-west, Saint-Lyphard in the west and Herbinac in the north-west.

Due to the swampy area, the individual villages of the municipality form islands in the moorland (e.g. Île de Fèdrun, etc.).
