The Canton Guérande (in Breton Canton Gwenrann ) is a French canton in the Arrondissement Saint-Nazaire , in the Loire-Atlantique and the region Pays de la Loire ; its main town is Guérande .
history
The canton was established in 1790. From 1790 to 2015 six municipalities belonged to the canton of Guérande. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 10. From the previous six communes, Saint-André-des-Eaux moved to the canton of La Baule-Escoublac . In addition to the five remaining municipalities, all municipalities of the previous canton of Herbignac and the municipality of Saint-Joachim from the canton of Pontchâteau were added.

The old canton of Guérande comprised six municipalities over an area of 176.59 km². These were: Guérande (main town), La Turballe , Mesquer , Piriac-sur-Mer , Saint-André-des-Eaux and Saint-Molf . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 4413.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the six voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Jean-Pierre Bernard / Chantal Brière (both UD) won against Franck Hervy / Dominique Migault (both PS) with a share of the vote of 56.73% (turnout: 47.62%).
