The canton Guémené-Penfao (Breton Canton Gwenvenez-Penfaou ) is a French canton in the arrondissement of châteaubriant-Ancenis in the Loire-Atlantique and the region Pays de la Loire ; its main town is Guémené-Penfao .

history

The canton was founded in 1790. In 2015, five municipalities belonged to the canton of Guémené-Penfao. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 19. In addition to the five previous communes, all communes of the previous cantons of Derval and Nozay were added.

The canton is located in the north of the Loire-Atlantique department.

The old canton of Guémené-Penfao comprised five municipalities on an area of ​​212.14 km². These were: Conquereuil , Guémené-Penfao (main town), Marsac-sur-Don , Massérac and Pierric . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 4412.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Yannick Bigaud (UMP / LR) / Anne-Sophie Douet (DVD) against Viviane Lopez / Gilles Philippot (both DVG ) won with a share of the vote of 50.05% (turnout: 53.34 %).
