The canton Pornic (Breton canton Pornizh ) is a French canton in the arrondissement Saint-Nazaire , in the department of Loire-Atlantique and in the region of Pays de la Loire ; its main place is Pornic .

history

The canton was founded in 1790. From 1790 to 2015 five municipalities belonged to the canton of Pornic. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 8. In addition to the previous communes, 2 of the 6 communes of the previous canton of Bourgneuf-en-Retz and the commune of Chauvé from the canton of Saint-Père-en-Retz were added.

The old canton of Pornic comprised five municipalities on an area of ​​179.83 km². These were: Arthon-en-Retz , La Plaine-sur-Mer , Pornic (main town), Préfailles and Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 4432.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the six voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Patrick Girard / Christiane Van Goethem (both Union de la Droite) won against Alain Breuil / Barbara Lussaud (both FN ) with 74.3% of the votes (turnout: 52.6%) .
