history
The canton was created when the French cantons were redistributed in 2015. The residents formerly belonged to the cantons of Orvault (Sautron), Saint-Étienne-de-Montluc (Couëron) and Saint-Herblain-Ouest-Indre (Indre and parts of the city of Saint -Herblain).

The canton is located in the southern half of the Loire-Atlantique department north of the Loire and west of Nantes .

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the six voting pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Hervé Corouge / Carole Grelaud (both PS) won against Jeannick Cavalin / Luc Mincheneau (both Union de la Droite) with a share of the vote of 58.22% (turnout: 47.03%).
