Assérac ( Breton Azereg ; Gallo : Aserac ) is a French municipality with 1790 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and the canton of Guérande (until 2015: canton of Herbignac ). The inhabitants are called Asseracais .
geography
Assérac is located about 21 kilometers northwest of Saint-Nazaire in the northwest of the department in the Brière countryside . To the west lies the Bay of Biscay ( Atlantic Ocean ). The municipality is part of the Brière Regional Nature Park . Assérac is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Pénestin in the north and north-west, Camoël in the north, Herbignac in the east, Saint-Molf in the south and Mesquer in the south-west.
