Saint-Viaud ( Breton : Sant-Widel-Skovrid ) is a French municipality with 2510 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . Saint-Viaud belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Nazaire and is part of the canton of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (until 2015: canton of Saint-Père-en-Retz ). The inhabitants are called vitaliens .
geography
Saint-Viaud is located about 35 kilometers west of Nantes in the historic Pays de Retz landscape on the Loire estuary . The Canal Maritime de la Basse Loire runs along the northern edge of the municipality . Saint-Viaud is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Frossay in the north and east, Chaumes-en-Retz in the south-east, Chauvé in the south, Saint-Père-en-Retz in the west and Paimbœuf in the north-west.
The former route nationale 723 (today's D723) runs through the municipality .
