Saint-Même-le-Tenu ( Breton : Sant-Masen-ar-Porzh ) is a former French commune with last 1,191 inhabitants (2013) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire . Saint-Même-le-Tenu belonged to the Arrondissement of Nantes and the Canton of Machecoul . The inhabitants are called Ténumémois .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Machecoul and Saint-Même-le-Tenu were merged into a Commune nouvelle with the name Machecoul-Saint-Même .

geography

Saint-Même-le-Tenu is located in the countryside of the Pays de Retz about 25 kilometers southeast of Nantes on the banks of the Tenu River .

history

The original place name was Portus Vitraria from the 8th century. The current name goes back to a church founded by the monks of the monastery of Saint-Mesmin-de-Micy.
