The Sillon de Bretagne is one of the largest (not tallest) skyscrapers in Europe. It was built between 1970 and 1974 and is located in Saint-Herblain in Nantes in the Pays de la Loire in France, about 400 m east of the national road 844.

history

The building, the largest residential building in the west of France, was planned and constructed on the initiative of Herblain's mayor Michel Chauty (term of office from 1959 to 1977). In 1965 the purchase of land began, and in 1967 a first architectural draft was presented. The planning was completed in 1968 and the construction itself began in May 1970. The first tenants moved in in 1971 and the last apartments were completed in 1974.

The Sillon de Bretagne is 97 meters high and 425 meters long and has 32 floors. Around 3600 people work or live in this building in 781 apartments and on 13,500 m² of office, service and shopping space. The Center Commercial Espace Océan shopping center and the Lycée et college Saint Dominique are in the immediate vicinity .
