Mordoğan means "lilac birth" in Turkish (Mor = lilac / purple; Doğan = birth; from Mordoğan the sky shows a strong purple color at sunrise).
The quiet Aegean fishing and tourism village is located in the Karaburun district of the city of Izmir in Turkey. Mordoğan is located on the eastern coast of the natural Karaburun peninsula on the Gulf of İzmir. The city is 80 kilometers from Izmir and can be reached by minibuses and daily from Foça by boats in the summer months . When passing through, you reach the small town of Karaburun (Kara = black; Burun = nose), which got its name from the peninsula. During a tour around the peninsula (e.g. by scooter or bicycle) you get impressions of the landscape that change from bay to bay.
The small town is known for its daffodils , its beaches (e.g. Ayibaligi, Ardic, Kütlücek), its sea caves and the Gabelberg (Catalkaya). The daffodils, fish, olive oil and herbs (e.g. oregano, thyme) from Mordoğan are in demand at weekly markets in major Turkish cities. Mordogan has a number of smaller accommodations and restaurants. The place is ideal for hunting, fishing, diving, hiking and surfing.
The tourist center Çeşme is 40 kilometers away.
