Alella is a Catalan municipality in the province of Barcelona in northeastern Spain . It is in the Comarca of Maresme .
Geographical location
The municipality is located about 19 km northeast of Barcelona, about 2.5 km from the Mediterranean Sea on the historic Via Augusta . In the neighboring municipality of El Masnou you can get a connection to the S-Bahn network of Barcelona. Alella can also be reached via the direct motorway connection (C-32) Barcelona - Mataró - Girona.
history
The settlement of Alella was first mentioned in 975. From 993 the parish of Sant Feliu d'Alella appears in the documents . At that time, jurisdiction over the village lay with the Counts of Barcelona .

economy
Viticulture is an essential industry in Alella. The place is namesake for the wine-growing region of the same name with its own designation of origin D. O. Alella . The local wine cooperative “Alella Vinícola” was founded in 1906 as one of the first in Catalonia.
