Mataró ( cat . [ Mətəˈɾo ]) is a city in Spain .

Mataró is the capital of the Catalan comarca of Maresme in the province of Barcelona . The city is located about 30 km northeast of Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast , on the so-called Costa del Maresme and is still considered a suburb of Barcelona.
Mataró has 128,265 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) on an area of 22.5 km², that is 5693 inhabitants / km².
Mataró is well connected to the Catalan transport network via the N II ( Girona –Barcelona), direct motorway connections to Barcelona and Granollers and the railway line to Barcelona.
history
The history of Mataró goes back to the time of the Romans . The Roman name of the place was Iluro . From this time there is still a Roman villa, the Torre Llauder from the 1st century BC. Chr.
The first railway line in Spain , commissioned on October 28, 1848, ran from Barcelona to Mataró.
The world-famous modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch (1867–1956) comes from Mataró.
