The Athletics Integrity Unit , shortly AIU (dt. Independent Athletes' Commission ) is an independent organization that in 2017 the World Athletics Association was founded with the aim to tackle the problem of doping in athletics. But other forms of unsportsmanlike behavior are also controlled and sanctioned by the AIU.

Area of ​​responsibility

The AIU is responsible for counteracting the following factors:

  • doping
  • Manipulation of competition results
  • Bribery and Corruption
  • Betting regulations
  • Age control
  • Abuse by changing citizenship

The AIU itself collects all data, for example in the form of doping controls, and evaluates them in cooperation with partner institutes. Furthermore, the organization reports all cases of abuse independently and is authorized to suspend the athletes thereupon, but not to ban them. She also organizes lectures and campaigns to raise awareness against abuse in athletics.
