Younès Essalhi (born February 20, 1993 ) is a Moroccan long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Younès Essalhi gained his first international experience in 2012 at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where he finished fourth in the 5000 meter run with 13: 41.69 minutes. The following year he won the Francophonie Games in Nice in 13: 49.36 minutes and then did not finish at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Palembang . In 2015 he qualified for the World Championships in Beijing for the first time , but did not finish there either. In 2016, he finished fourth at the African Championships in Durban in the 1,500-meter run in 3: 41.34 minutes and then took part in the 5000-meter Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but finished there with 13: 41.41 minutes not until the final . In 2017 he won the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in 13: 27.64 minutes over 5000 meters, as well as the Francophonie Games in Abidjan in 14: 11.60 minutes. In 2018, he finished sixth in the 3000 meter run at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 8: 16.63 minutes and then won the 5000 meters at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona in 13: 56.12 minutes. He then came seventh at the African Championships in Asaba in 13: 58.64 minutes. The following year he finished fourth in the Arab Championships in Cairo in 13: 56.93 minutes.

In 2015 and 2016, Essalhi was the Moroccan champion in the 1500 meter run.
