Punta Umbría is a Spanish city in the province of Huelva in the autonomous region of Andalusia . On January 1, 2019, 15,242 residents lived there. The urban area has an area of 38.77 km² and a population density of 393 inhabitants / km². The place is 7 m above sea level on a headland between the Atlantic Ocean and the delta of the Odiel and Rio Tinto rivers . Immediately north of the city, in the mouth of the rivers, lies the Marismas del Odiel Natural Park , which was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1983 . Up to the provincial capital Huelva is about 20 km (road).
Fishing and tourism shape the city. On the one hand, up to 70,000 holidaymakers flock to the city in summer to relax on the four beaches of El Portil , La Bota , Los Enebrales and Matanegra . On the other hand, Punta Umbría has one of the largest fishing fleets in the province with around 190 boats. A good 4,800 tons of fish are landed on site every year.
