Villalba del Alcor is a Spanish municipality in the province of Huelva in Andalusia .
history
Until the Roman colonization, there were no clear signs of settlement in the area known as El Giraldo. During the Islamic era, the zone was dangerous because of the clash of the kingdoms of Niebla and Seville . For this reason, at the beginning of the 12th century , in the Almohad epoch, a castle was built on the slope of the mountain, which is known as Castillo de Ostia .
In 1248 Ferdinand III conquered . Seville and the Aljarafe area . Villalba and its castle fell victim to this conquest, but are still in the border area until the kingdom of Niebla finally falls in 1262. As a result, Islamic power falls apart, but Villalba still remains uninhabited. A rapid process of repopulation did not begin until 1327. A Carmelite monastery was founded in 1588 and another in 1618. These facilities cause a rapid development of the place.
After the 17th century a hospital for typhus sufferers was built. This gave Villalba an outstanding position within the Condado .
economy
The main industries are agriculture, especially viticulture, and gastronomy.
