Jürgen Schwalbe

Jürgen (Zapo) Schwalbe (born August 10, 1942 ) is a German actor, director and author.

Life

Schwalbe received his entire artistic training in Paris at the École de Mime du Vieux Colombier with Wolfram Mehring , with Étienne Decroux and in modern dance with Jerome Andrews. At the same time he studied theater aesthetics at the Sorbonne . He was taken on as an actor in the Théâtre de la Mandragore by Mehring, which was performing at the Théâtre du Vieux Colombier at the time . After returning to Germany and receiving a doctorate in literary studies (University of Freiburg i. Br. 1972), he became Germany's youngest artistic director at the Reutlingen Theater Die Tonne (seasons 1972/73 and 1973/74). From 1976 to 1988 he held a professorship at the University of Music and Theater in Hanover, after which he was director of the children's and youth theater in Essen for ten years. Jürgen Schwalbe lives in Hamburg and works as a director, film author, project developer and lecturer for theater theory and drama / musical. In 2001 he directed the musical The Spirit of Christmas for the world premiere at the Teatro Centro in Oberhausen. In 2002 he staged the second version, in which he also worked on the book, at the same time at the Theater des Westens and in the Musical Dome in Cologne. In 2006 he directed the musical Die 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Blaubär .
