Lena Baker

Lena Baker (born June 8, 1900 in Cuthbert, Georgia , † March 5, 1945 in Reidsville , Georgia) was an American woman who was executed with the electric chair . As a black woman, she was found guilty of shooting a drunken white man in 1944 who kidnapped her and threatened to kill her.

During the trial, Baker testified that, against her will, EB Knight, who hired her as a maid, kept her in his flour mill. The trial of Lena Baker lasted a day. She was executed on March 5, 1945 at the Georgia State Penitentiary in Reidsville. In 2005, she was pardoned posthumously .
