Isaac Kimeli (born March 9, 1994 in Uasin Gishu County , Kenya ) is a Belgian athlete of Kenyan origin who specializes in long-distance running.

Athletic career

Isaac Kimeli has been competing for Belgium in international competitions since 2011. At that time he started at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Trabzon over 1500 meters, where he finished ninth. In 2012 he finished third in the Belgian U20 championships. A year later he won the national championship title in the same age group over 1500 meters. In March he took part in the U20 World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz. in 23:15 min he finished 30th. In July 2014 he became Belgian champion over 1500 meters. Over this distance he then went to the start at the European Championships . As ninth of his run, he failed to make it into the final. In 2015 Kimeli started at the U23 European Championships in Tallinn over 5000 meters. In the final he ran 13: 54.33 min and won the silver medal.

At the European Championships in Amsterdam in 2016, Kimeli reached the final over 1500 meters, in which he finished ninth in 3: 47.92 minutes. In March 2017, he competed in the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala, but could not finish the race. In August 2018 he started at the European Championships in Berlin over 5000 meters, but was disqualified after crossing the line of a track. Then in December he entered the European Cross Country Championships in Tilburg, the Netherlands, where he won the silver medal behind the Norwegian Filip Ingebrigtsen in 28:52 minutes . In September 2019, Kimeli set a best time over 5000 meters in a competition in Brussels in 13: 13.02 minutes, with which he secured qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games . A good month later, he competed at the world championships in Doha over 1500 and 5000 meters. Over the 5000 meters, he made it into the finals, where he had to pay tribute to the high starting pace and finished last in 14th place. Five days later he reached the semi-finals over 1500 meters, but was eliminated there in ninth place of his run. In December Kimeli finished eighth at the European Cross Country Championships in Lisbon.
